near as possible to where it originally lay, not nearer the hole, avoids interference by the condition and is not in a hazard or on a putting green.

Stones In Bunkers : Stones in BUNKERS are movable obstructions (Rule 24-1 applies). Stones are, by definition, loose impediments and, when a player’s ball is in a hazard, a stone lying in or touching the hazard may not be touched or moved (Rule 13-4). However, stones in bunkers may represent a danger to players (a player could be injured by a stone struck by the player’s club in an attempt to play the ball) and they may interfere with the proper playing of the game. Please note that this rule DOES NOT grant a player the right to intentionally touch or move his ball. However, if the ball is INADVERTENTLY moved by the act of removing the stone, the ball shall be replaced, and there is no penalty provided the movement of the ball is directly attributable to the removal of the stone. This rule is strictly limited to BUNKERS and no other hazards.

Distance-Measuring Devices: For all tournament play a player may obtain distance information by using a distance measuring device.  This device must be set to measure distance only.  However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a function on a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification.  Distance information can be shared with other participants, but should not delay play.

Environmentally-Sensitive Area: The course has several environmentally sensitive areas.  If a ball is hit into one of these areas (marked by a sign), you are not permitted to search for you ball.  These areas are considered as ground under repair from which play is prohibited.  If a player’s ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, the player may take relief under rule USGA 25-1.

CVMC local rule:
Unmowed Tall Grass:  In an effort to speed play, if a ball is hit into an area of unmowed tall grass and cannot be located, the player my take relief as if the unmowed grass was a lateral water hazard (one stroke penalty from the point where the ball entered the hazard).
