This has probably been the weirdest summer so far. With a very cool and wet July, the golf course has retained its color and the rough is as thick as it’s ever been.  The zoysia fairways are holding up very nicely and some may have noticed that we are currently repairing some of the bad spots in a few of the fairways. We hope to continue to do this throughout the growing season. With the wet weather the greens have taken a beating, but with constant topdressing and rolling, I think they are putting true.  Currently, the staff is focusing most of our efforts on keeping the golf course mowed.   We do have a few projects on the horizon that mostly include tee renovation. The renovation will not only lengthen some holes, but will give a better teeing surface for the white and gold tees. Recently, we achieved Audubon International certification. This has been a major goal of mine for the last 2 ½ years. We are only the 708 course in the WORLD to achieve this certification. It is a combination of  many environmental efforts that we have implemented at Vettiner. This certification not only sets us apart, but puts us on the “golfing map” for environmental stewardship. I am very proud of this accomplishment and looking forward to continuing these efforts.
